A crowd of 300 to 400 Ed Sheeran fans (called ‘Sheerios’) braved the rain to share a very special experience with Ed Sheeran. So this superstar’s concert was likely as special to him as it was to all of his fans who ferried over to Ellis Island to be a part of an innovative event.

Sheeran had been staging “Multiply Days” – consisting of a number of ever-growing, intimate performances in a single day – around the globe in anticipation of his new album, x (pronounced ‘multiply’). “Ed On Ellis” was planned as the largest in a series of shows during “Multiply Day” in New York City and served as the conclusion to this thrilling extravaganza celebrating and demonstrating the concept guiding his new record.

Fans attending “Ed On Ellis” were treated to sweeping views of the New York skyline and Lady Liberty while listening to Sheeran play a variety of hits new and old, 10 days before the release of his new album x, which arrived on Monday, June 23 and was preceded by chart-topping lead single “Sing.”

Dozens of CBS Radio stations nationwide conducted contests and giveaways for fan to win tickets to this concert, and fans could also get tickets via Radio.com.

x, which found Sheeran collaborating with a stellar list of producers, recently rocketed to the No. 1 spot on the iTunes Store’s overall “Top Albums” chart, mere hours after becoming available for pre-order at http://smarturl.it/x-itunesdlx.

Radio.com released a post-concert report on the ‘5 Best Things That Happened at Ed on Ellis,’ ( http://radio.com/2014/06/14/ed-sheeran-ellis-island-best-moments) including the following highlights:
• He played extra-long. Fans expected Sheeran to perform 8 songs, but Sheeran delivered more than expected.
• His green room was the entire second floor of the Ellis Island Museum, known as the Registry Room. Fans milled around only one floor below, waiting for the show to start. From the stage, Sheeran told us that many of his family of Sheerans had been through Ellis Island.
• Sheeran played his song from The Fault In Our Stars, “All The Stars.”

This was Ed Sheeran’s first time visiting Ellis Island, as well.
